PHILLIP A. BARREDA

Phillip A. Barreda is the President & CEO – Talisman Consulting.

Mr. Barreda founded an innovative consulting firm that directs business owners in navigating government and corporate supply chain including: certification, procurement system guidance, business development planning, executive coaching, certification maximization, and growth strategy both is the U.S. and in Latin America. Assist corporations in creating and implementing effective and sustainable supplier diversity programs.

Mr. Barreda was named Executive Vice President of The Chicago Minority Business Supplier Council, Inc. (ChicagoMSDC) in September of 2006.

He has also served as interim president twice during a nationwide search for a permanent president. Over 16 years, Barreda served ChicagoMSDC in all aspects of minority business support and development. He was integrally involved in many different initiatives: ChicagoMSDC membership expansion, access to capital, as well as strategic business alliances. Mr. Barreda has been a leader in the evolvement of the ChicagoMSDC to its current level.

Prior to his employment with ChicagoMSDC, Mr. Barreda spent thirteen years with Harris Trust and Savings Bank in Chicago where he served as Vice President in both the Marketing and Strategic Sourcing departments. Barreda was a Senior Buyer at Allstate Insurance Company in Northbrook, IL prior to his position at Harris.

 

Mr. Barreda has served on the Board of Directors of the Union League Club of Chicago, where he was Chairman of the Communications Committee and the Technology Committee. Mr. Barreda is an adjunct faculty member of St. Augustine College in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood where he teaches Economics and General Business Management courses. He has served as Chair of Board of Directors of the Illinois Institute for Entrepreneurship Education, has served as a member of the Business Enterprise Program for the State of Illinois CMS Program and is a member of PNC Bank Community Development Advisory Committee. In 2008, Mr. Barreda was presented with the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency “Advocate of Year Award”. Barreda is the recipient of the 2010 Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) Advocate Award.

 

While earning his Master’s Degree from De Paul University, Mr. Barreda held assistant teaching positions in Europe at the London School of Economics and University of Paris.  He participated in an Executive MBDA Program at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.  He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana.
